Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH) has stood at the
feet of the Peaks of Otter for half a century. Just as the Peaks
has been an unmistakable landmark of the forest-lined landscape,
the hospital has been a mark of progress – a solid foundation
– for the community's people.
BMH has a storied history, from its humble, community-driven
beginning to today's technologically advanced services.
Bedford Memorial Hospital is very committed to improving
and protecting the health of the community. Our well-trained
team of physicians and nurses are dedicated to quality, personal
care – making a difference in the lives of
patients and their families.
In its 50 years, the hospital has always been progressive in
its services, offering up-to-date procedures and care options.
The hospital will maintain a proactive stance
in serving the community, focussing its attention
over the next several years on:
- Additional expansion of the Emergency Department, including
upgrading computerized information technology.
- Create a cardiovascular testing and service pod through relocation
of services.
- Expand the Sleep Lab to improve access and scheduling.
- Re-focus general surgery services by improving patient access
to several care options, such as gall bladder removal, appendicitis
treatment and breast care.
- Strengthen the family practice program, with additional focus
on ear, nose and throat care.
- Institute bar code technology to decrease medication-dispensing
errors.
- Install other computerization tools for improved patient
record maintenance.
The hospital will also make improvements
in its community-based services, too, like the Adult Day Center
and Oakwood Manor, in order to meet increased
volumes. For more information, please call us at 540-586-2441.
