The Birthing Unit

At The Birthing Unit at Bedford Memorial Hospital, we know that labor and birth is a normal, healthy life event. Our specially trained team of nurses will provide medical and educational skills that will help in the healing process, and build a strong family bond. The care we provide at The Birthing Unit is individualized, and focuses on informed choice, family support and quality care and education.

All nurses and physicians are certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and The Birthing Unit has access to the best in neonatal emergency support should an infant or mother be at high-risk for complications.

With only 10 beds, The Birthing Unit offers a home-like atmosphere and nurses and physicians dedicated to quality care and the safety of each expectant mother and each newborn. Our services include:

• Antepartum testing
  
• 24- hour nursing care for both mother and baby
  
• Four birthing suites; one labor tub
  
• All rooms furnished with large, soft, sleep chairs for family members, TV. DVD player available on
• request.
  
• 24-hour infant security system
  
• Infant CPR instruction
  
• Infant care and safety sessions
  
• Baby Care and breast-feeding (lactation) classes by Certified Breast Feeding Educators
  
• Prepared Childbirth classes
