Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death for women over 25, but only about one-third of women know heart disease is their biggest health threat. In fact, many women fail to make the connection between its risk factors - such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol - and their chance of developing heart disease.
To raise awareness about the importance of maintaining good health, Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH) will sponsor The Heart Truth Campaign -- Women and Heart Disease session on Thursday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m., in the hospital auditorium. The session is free but registration is required due to limited seating.
While the risk of heart disease begins to rise in middle age, the condition develops over time and can start at a young age -- even in the teen years. It's never too early, or too late, to prevent and control the risk factors for heart disease.
The Heart Truth campaign is designed to reach women in community settings through a diverse network of national and grassroots partner organizations. It is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), The American Heart Association and other groups committed to the health and well-being of women.
