FREE INFORMATIONAL PROGRAM ABOUT ARTHRITIS SET IN BEDFORD

Pain. Swelling. Loss of mobility. All of these are symptoms of arthritis, and living with the condition often makes daily activities difficult to perform.

To raise awareness about arthritis care, Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH) has scheduled a free program on Thursday, May 13, at noon, in the hospital's auditorium. Registration is not required and light refreshments will be provided.

Orthopedic surgeon Michael J. Diminick, M.D., will discuss the newest treatment and medication options for arthritis. He will also hold a question and answer session.

There are 170 different kinds of arthritis, but the most common are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative arthritis, is the result of chronic wear on a joint. The joint's cartilage, which normally cushions the joint, breaks down and causes the bones to rub against each other, resulting in pain and loss of movement. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammation of the lining of the joints and can be chronic, or have periods of flare-ups and remissions
