E.W. Tibbs, vice president for Carilion Health System (CHS), has been appointed by the boards of Carilion and Centra Health to serve as president and chief executive officer of Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH). The appointment comes after serving as interim CEO of the hospital since October of last year. Tibbs, whose educational background ranges from a bachelorŐs degree in nursing to a masterŐs degree in business, has been with CHS for fifteen years. In that time, he has overseen healthcare operations in the areas of ambulatory care, occupational medicine, trauma services, ground and air transportation services, emergency departments and surgical services.
Tibbs, a Bedford native, has also held previous positions as operations manager for the orthopedic clinic at BMH, then as director of emergency services for hospitals in Bedford and Rocky Mount. Currently, he serves as vice president for emergency and trauma services for Carilion, in addition to his appointment as CEO for Bedford Memorial.

Tibbs and his wife, Angie, and their two daughters, Emma and McKenzie, live in Bedford County. He is active in the community, volunteering with the Western Virginia Emergency Services Council and the Bedford YMCA Board.
